India opener Smriti Mandhana became the second Indian to score a century in women’s T20I during India’s first match against England at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.
She reached her maiden T20I ton in 51 balls, which included 14 fours and three sixes. The southpaw struck a four off Lauren Bell in the 16th over to achieve the feat.
So far, India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was the only player from the country to be a centurion after she’d notched up a 51-ball 103 which she scored against New Zealand in 2018 during the T20 World Cup.
Smriti, standing in as the side’s skipper due to Harmanpreet’s absence from a head injury, also became the first Indian woman to score a century in all three formats of the game.
She was dismissed after scoring 112 off 62 deliveries, the highest-ever individual score by an Indian in WT20Is. Previously, her best knock was a 56-ball 87 against Ireland in 2023.
