
A speeding truck knocked down a couple, causing the death of the woman and leaving her husband injured in a road mishap at Gujarwadi Phata in Katraj on Wednesday morning.
Police have identified the deceased woman as Prachi Rohit Bagul (25), a resident of Sai Plaza, Mangdewadi in Katraj. Her husband Rohit (28) lodged the FIR in this connection at Bharati Vidyapeeth police station.
Police said Prachi and her husband Rohit were passing through Gujarwadi Phata in Katraj on a two-wheeler when an overloaded truck dashed them around 10 pm.
The impact was so severe that Prachi, who was sitting as pillion-rider on the two-wheeler, received severe injuries, causing her death. Also, her husband Rohit was left injured and admitted to a hospital for treatment.
After receiving information about the accident, a police team rushed to the spot for investigation. Police booked the truck driver under sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 125(a), 324(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Assistant police inspector Samir Shende, the investigation officer said, “We have arrested the truck driver. A court has remanded him to police custody for two days. Further investigation is on.”
Meanwhile, in another incident, a youngster died in a road mishap near Nawale bridge, around Tuesday night. Police have identified the deceased as Ajit Gopal Javandare (24), a native of Latur district. His friend Abhishek More (24), also from Latur, lodged the FIR at Sinhagad Road police station on Wednesday.
Police said Ajit and Abhishek were passing through the Nawale bridge road on a motorcycle. But a speeding truck knocked them down at 11.15 pm on Tuesday. Police have arrested the truck driver Kishan Devilal Nayak (30) of Rajasthan on charges of negligent and rash driving, under BNS sections 106(1), 281 and sections of the Motor Vehicle Act.
