Amitabh Bachchan’s Laawaris track Mere Angne Mein remains one of Hindi cinema’s most iconic songs — a cult classic that’s loved for its quirky, satirical take on societal stereotypes. The 1981 hit, composed by Kalyanji-Anandji and performed with full dramatic flair by Amitabh Bachchan himself, showcases the megastar in multiple humorous avatars — including, famously, dressed in women’s clothes.
Years later, in a candid 1998 interview on Rediff, Jaya Bachchan opened up about the making of that unforgettable sequence. She revealed how Amitabh “didn’t look very attractive” in a saree. Jaya said, “Though the Laawaris song is a traditional song for UP, I think Amitji does not look a very attractive person in a woman’s gear. Specially, he’s too tall to look like a woman.”

Not long back, a video went viral on Reddit. In it, Amitabh Bachchan is seen at an event singing Mere Angne Mein at an event. But here’s the twist — Jaya Bachchan is right there by his side, and Amitabh, ever the showman, doesn’t miss a beat.
As he crooned the cheeky lyrics “Jiski biwi chhoti, uska bhi bada naam hai… gode mein bitha lo, bachhe ka kya kaam hai,” he picked up Jaya in his arms and broke into a little dance, leaving the crowd in splits and the internet obsessed.
Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan got married in 1973 in a private ceremony and continue to be one of Bollywood’s most loved couples. They have been married for more than 50 years now and have two children, Shweta Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan. They also have three grandchildren – Agastya Nanda, Navya Naveli Nanda, and Aaradhya Bachchan.
