The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) could come up with standard guidelines for Indian Premier League victory celebrations in the wake of the stampede at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
The matter is likely to be discussed at the virtual emergent Apex Council meeting on June 14. “The BCCI will discuss the issue with all the apex council members and take a decision on what could be the road ahead,” a Board insider said.
Last week, 11 people died in the stampede at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, while several were injured, after fans gathered to celebrate RCB’s maiden IPL title. While the BCCI officials made it clear that they were not aware of the victory celebration, going forward, the Board is exploring the possibility of formulating norms for such victory celebrations.

“We will discuss all the aspects and take a decision in the best interest of the game and the fans,” the Board source claimed, indicating that ‘as of now’ the RCB is unlikely to face any sanction.
According to the agenda of the meeting, the BCCI will discuss the domestic season and also take stock of the Age Verification Programme, which is aimed at curbing age-fudging in junior cricket.
