
England batter Harry Brook replaced compatriot Joe Root as the No. 1 Test batter in the world in the latest update to the ICC Men’s Test Player Ratings.
Brook rose to the top spot following his 158-run knock in the first innings of the second Test against India at Edgbaston, with Root dropping down to second place.
Meanwhile, India skipper Shubman Gill rose to a career-best sixth spot in the rankings after hitting 269 and 161 at Edgbaston to register the most number of runs scored by an Indian in a Test match.
Gill is just 79 rating points behind Brook, who is followed by Root (second), Kane Williamson (third), Yashasvi Jaiswal (fourth) and Steve Smith (fifth) in the rankings.
England wicketkeeper Jamie Smith moved up to 10th from the 26th spot following scores of 184 not out and 88 in the second Test against India, while South Africa’s Wiaan Mulder jumped to 22nd after his unbeaten 367 against Zimbabwe.
Mulder also gained 12 spots and moved to the third position on the list for Test all-rounders, which continues to be led by India’s Ravindra Jadeja.
Despite missing the Test at Edgbaston, Jasprit Bumrah continued his reign as the world’s No. 1 bowler in the longest format, while his teammate Mohammed Siraj gained six spots to sit 22nd on that list.
In the latest update to the ODI rankings, Sri Lanka captain Charith Asalanka rose to the sixth position on the list for batters, while Kusal Mendis moved up to 10th. With nine wickets in three matches during the ODI series against Bangladesh, Sri Lanka spinner Wanindu Hasaranga surged to the eighth spot in the rankings for bowlers.
