Elite Women’s Boxing Tournament: Nikhat Zareen advances to 51kg semifinals
Home favourite and two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen delighted the Hyderabad crowd with a dominant 5:0 victory over Kalpana in the 51kg quarterfinals at the Elite Women’s Boxing Tournament on Sunday.
Former youth world champion Ankushita Boro advanced to the semifinals in the 65kg category with a clinical 5:0 win over Rajasthan pugilist Parthvi.
Other notable quarterfinal results saw Preeti (54kg), Jyoti (51kg), and Devika Ghorpade (51kg) book their semifinal berths with clean, unanimous wins. Tamil Nadu’s V. Lakshaya (51kg) impressed with a 5:0 win over Laxmi Devi, while Tanu (54kg), Shashi (65kg), and Yashi Sharma (65kg) also moved ahead after solid outings. Ankushita’s TOPS teammate Gitimoni Gogoi advanced in 70kg via RSC, and Babirojsana Chanu (57kg) registered a stoppage win in the second round.
The tournament, serving as a gateway to the elite national camp in Patiala, continues at the Saroornagar Indoor Stadium, Hyderabad, with semifinals scheduled for Monday.

German Masters: Diksha stays in Top 10 after third round
Diksha Dagar held onto her spot inside the top-10 despite a difficult third round at the Amundi German Masters at the Green Eagle Golf Course in Hamburg.
Diksha shot a round of 1-over 74 with three birdies and four bogeys and was tied-eighth.
Vani Kapoor (76) was T-21 and Avani Prashanth (74) was T-36 after three rounds.
Singaporean star Shannon Tan produced a strong round of 5-under 68 to become the sole leader heading into the final day.

Bhatia fires four straight birdies in late stages of Round 3 at Rocket Classic
Akshay Bhatia, who made the cut on the line, produced four birdies in a row in the late stages of his third round as he shot 2-under 70 and moved to 8-under for three days at the Rocket Classic in Detroit.
Bhatia, who has had rounds of 68-70-70, was placed tied 55th.
Bhatia is currently 40th on the FedEx Cup standings and the top 70 will qualify for the first of the three events in the play-offs, following which the top 50 will move to the second and then finally the top 30 play the Tour Championship, which had a purse of USD 25 million in 2024.
Bhatia was 26th in 2024 and Sahith Theegala was third.

Adamas Howrah Warriors rode on Shakir Habib Gandhi and Aditya Purohit’s useful contributions with the bat and Kanish Seth’s three-wicket haul to beat Murshidabad Kings by nine runs in the final and emerge as the champion in the second Bengal Pro T20 League at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday night.
