Former India pacer Atul Wassan asserted that it is about time Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj pulled their weight and weaned themselves off the “over-reliance” on Jasprit Bumrah, who did all the heavy lifting in the first Test against England.
Bumrah scalped a fifer in the first innings of the opening Test at Headingly while his counterparts struggled to get their line and length right and leaked runs profligately as England made mincemeat out of Indian bowlers to chase a stiff 371 with five wickets in hand on Tuesday.
“I think the time has come for Prasidh Krishna and Mohammad Siraj to be the spearhead bowlers for their team, rather than relying on Bumrah and if they rely on Bumrah while being unsure whether to play Kuldeep Yadav or not, then you can’t win this series,” he told PTI Videos on Wednesday.
The track in Leeds was flat as a pancake that did not tilt in favour of seamers, but Wassan hopes for an improved outing from the pacers once they get a pitch suiting them down to the ground in advance of the second Test scheduled for July 2 at Edgbaston.
