After the death of Sidhu Moosewala in 2022, the gangsters connected with Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang escalated their operations and started threatening popular celebrities including Salman Khan, Gippy Grewal and AP Dhillon. In In 2024, singer AP Dhillon’s residence in Canada became a target of one such shooting incident. While the singer was unharmed, this was another episode where the Bishnoi gang members tried to instill fear in the minds of celebrities. In the recently released BBC documentary The Killing Call, investigative journalist Ishleen Kaur asked Goldy Brar, who is a part of Bishnoi’s gang, about their intention behind shooting at Dhillon’s house.
Goldy has claimed that they murdered Sidhu Moosewala because they believed that he conspired with a rival gang and was responsible for the killing of Vicky Middukhera. Goldy, in the same documentary, insisted that Sidhu’s death was ordered to avenge for Vicky’s murder. Here, Ishleen shared that after Sidhu’s death, Lawrence Bishnoi gang benefitted quite a lot. “Before Sidhu’s murder, a lot of people had never even heard of Lawrence Bishnoi or Goldy Brar but after they killed Sidhu, everyone knew about them. Everyone had heard of them. They took Sidhu’s fame and in an instant, transformed it into their own notoriety, and it was that notoriety that made it a lot easier for them to extort money,” she said.
Ishleen questioned Goldy about the money the gang had made since Sidhu’s killing but he insisted that if they just wanted that, they could have killed anyone. When asked why they chose to shoot at AP Dhillon’s house, and if this was a play at establishing dominance over the Punjabi music industry, Goldy seemed to have admitted that this was done just to create fear, so it gets easier to conduct extortion calls. “To feed a family of four, a man has to struggle all his life. We have to look after hundreds or even thousands of people who are like family to us. We have to extort people. To get money, we have to be feared,” he said.
The shooting happened in Canada’s Vancouver in September 2024 outside AP Dhillon’s house. Two vehicles were also set on fire. In November, 25-year-old Abjeet Kingra was arrested for the same. The other shooter is still at large.
