New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday asked all states to accelerate development of health infrastructure, with special focus on aspirational districts as well as remote, tribal and border areas.
In a meeting called to review projects under the Prime Minister-Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM), Modi also emphasised that equitable access to quality healthcare must be ensured for the poor, marginalised and underserved populations.
He called for urgent and sustained efforts to bridge existing gaps in critical health services across these regions.
PM-ABHIM was announced on Feb 1, 2021, with an outlay of about Rs 64,180 crore over six years (till FY 2025-26).
The measures under the scheme focus on developing capacities of health systems and institutions across the continuum of care at all levels vis-a-vis primary, secondary and tertiary, and preparing health systems in responding effectively to current and future pandemics/disasters.
