A 25-year-old State-level tennis player running a sports academy was shot dead allegedly by her father in Sector 57 of Gurugram on Thursday. The accused was apparently not in favour of the woman running the academy.
Radhika Yadav sustained three bullet injuries after her father, Deepak Yadav, 49, shot her point-blank around 10:30 a.m., said Gurugram Police spokesperson Sandeep Kumar. Deepak allegedly shot her from behind with his licensed revolver when she was preparing meals in the kitchen.
Deepak, a native of Wazirabad village, is a realtor and rents out properties for a living.
He was not happy with his daughter running the sports academy in their native Wazirabad village, apparently because the fellow villagers taunted him for living off his daughter’s earnings.
A fellow villager told Sportstar, on condition of anonymity, that they were shocked to hear the news, as Deepak spoke highly of his daughter and had always encouraged her to pursue tennis. “Deepak is very friendly and social. I got to know about the murder from my brother and found it difficult to believe. The academy was running well. Probably, she had also recently shot a promotion video for her academy,” said the 45-year-old villager.
While Deepak, along with his wife and two children, including a son, resided on the first floor of the house, his younger brother Kuldeep, also a real estate agent, stayed on the ground floor with his family. “Kuldeep and his family members rushed to the first floor after they heard the gunshots and found Radhika lying in a pool of blood. They took her to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead. The hospital authorities informed the police, leading to the arrest of the accused,” said Sandeep.
The licensed revolver used in the commission of the crime has been seized, the police said.
A case has been registered in Sector 56 Police Station based on the complaint of Kuldeep.
