Celebrity fashion designer-entrepreneur Masaba Gupta has posted rare photos with her father, former West Indies cricketer Vivian Richards, on Father’s Day. Her photo carousel comprised precious moments from her family, including pictures with her stepfather, Vivek Mehra, and husband-actor Satyadeep Mishra’s precious moments with their baby girl.
It is not everyday that Masaba posts pictures with her father Vivian and her family. “Father’s & Grandfather’s,” she wrote while sharing the pictures. One of the photos in the lot was a heartwarming glimpse of Vivian playing with his granddaughter, Matara. Another picture had Vivian, Satyadeep and Vivek pose together, which seemed like an unseen photo from Masaba’s wedding. Take a look:
For the unversed, Masaba Gupta was born out of wedlock to Neena Gupta and Vivian Richards. Neena, who was then struggling for work, took the bold decision to raise up her child on her own. However, Masaba had to face the consequences in school and was often bullied for it.
In an interview with Faye D’Souza, Masaba once said that she was called out in school as her mother Neena’s relationship with Vivian was out in the public. “When she was pregnant with me she didn’t have her mom around, her father was against it because it was out of wedlock. My father Viv Richards wasn’t around, and friends were around but it was not the same, everyone had their life. She couldn’t tell people that she was pregnant with me, so she had to hide her pregnancy. She didn’t have money. When I asked her how she managed through all of this she just said, ‘I was very happy to have a child of my own. I had no clue how I would bring you up’,” she said.
The designer further added, “It was used against me 100 percent, it was public and it was very interesting because the kids would speak about it like adults. I could hear them repeating something they heard in their house. One kid went on to say, ‘Hey bast**d, I believe you are a bast**d child’. This was when I was in the 7th grade. A lot of people also didn’t understand how I looked physically or why I looked like that.”
Meanwhile, in 2015, Masaba Gupta married Indian film producer Madhu Mantena, but they separated in 2018 and officially divorced in September 2019. In January 2023, she married actor Satyadeep Mishra. The couple welcomed a baby girl on October 11, 2024.
