Diljit Dosanjh’s Sardaar Ji 3 has been banned in India for featuring Pakistani actor Hania Aamir. This comes amid growing tensions with Pakistan after the ghastly Pahalgam attack in April. The film has been released outside of India, including Pakistan. Diljit, who stands by his decision to release his film outside the country, has shared the reactions of the Pakistani audience to his film.
Diljit Dosanjh took to Instagram and re-posted a video, which comprised the public’s reaction to Sardaar Ji 3 inside a theatre in Pakistan. Interestingly, the video posted by the singer-actor showed Hania on the screen. He shared another post, in which he is seen proudly flaunting the film’s global box office figures, amount to Rs 11.03 crore within two days of release. Take a look:
Diljit Dosanjh’s response to Sardaarji 3 controversy
Diljit Dosanjh recently broke his silence on the controversy and Hania Aamir’s casting in the film that was done months before the Pahalgam attack in April. Speaking to BBC Asian Network, the singer said that the project was completed before any of the current political tensions surfaced.
“Jab yeh film bani thi tab situation sab theek tha. We shot this in Feb and then everything was fine. Uske baad, bhut saari badi cheezen humare haath mein nahi hai. Toh producers ne decide kiya ki film obviously ab India toh nahi lagegi, toh overseas release karte hain. Toh producers ka bahut paisa laga hua hai aur jab yeh film bann rahi thi tab aisa kuch tha nahi (When this film was made, everything was fine. We shot it in February, and at that time, the situation was normal. After that, a lot of big things happened that are not in our control. So the producers decided that since the film obviously can’t release in India now, they’ll release it overseas. The producers have invested a lot of money, and when the film was being made, there was no such issue),” he said, adding that the makers are aware they will incur losses. “Now the situation is not in our hands. So if the producers want to release it abroad, I support them,” he shared.
Amid this, prominent film bodies have written to Sunny Deol and the makers of Border 2, to drop Diljit Dosanjh from the upcoming project. Reportedly, Ammy Virk is being considered for the part. An official confirmation from the makers is awaited.
