A bizarre scene unfolded at the Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS) Hospital in Jaipur when a man walked in carrying the very snake that had bitten him, alive and zipped up in a bag. What followed left hospital staff and patients stunned.
The incident reportedly took place around 4-5 days ago and was caught on camera. The video is now widely circulating on social media. In the footage, the man can be seen holding a black bag. As someone records the moment, the person behind the camera asks him, “Kaat hi chuka hai pehle? (Had it already bitten you?)”
The man responds with a smile, “Haan kaat chuka hai (Yes, it has already bitten me).” He then unzips the bag and pulls out the snake, gripping it by the face. Another person standing nearby even reaches out to touch the snake.
Dr Mahesh Mangal, the Medical Superintendent at RUHS, told NDTV that the man brought the snake to help doctors identify it and assess whether it was venomous.
“The man said he got the snake with him so it could be identified and we could tell whether it was poisonous or not,” he said.
The unexpected sight of a live snake in a hospital caused panic and fear among both hospital staff and patients’ families. “The staff members handled the situation and got the man admitted. His family members then took the snake away,” an official told NDTV.
Doctors at the hospital acted quickly and admitted the man for treatment. At the same time, efforts were made to secure the snake and ensure everyone’s safety. Wildlife experts were also brought in to handle the reptile.
The exact species of the snake involved in the Jaipur incident is yet to be confirmed, and it remains unclear whether it was venomous. Fortunately, the patient is said to be stable and is currently receiving medical care.
Interestingly, a similar incident occurred in October last year in Bhagalpur, Bihar. In that case, a man was bitten by a Russell’s viper, one of the most venomous snakes in the world. Instead of panicking or waiting to see how serious the bite was, he took matters into his own hands, literally. He caught the snake by its mouth and marched to the hospital with it in tow, leaving both doctors and onlookers equally stunned.
A video showed the man walking into the hospital with the snake wrapped around his neck. The unusual scene caught a lot of attention online and left people surprised at how fearlessly he handled the situation.
