A dramatic arrest took place in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur district, where police apprehended a wanted criminal who had been evading capture by disguising himself as a woman. The accused, identified as Dayashankar, also known as Bitiya, was nabbed from his residence in Harijan Basti, located in the Lakhara Bazaar area, on Wednesday, June 18.
Dayashankar reportedly has 13 criminal cases registered against him. These include charges of assault, robbery, threatening people and involvement in fights. He had been absconding for the past few months and was listed as a wanted criminal by the police.
As per reports, he had been using the disguise of a woman for a long time to mislead the police. A video of his arrest has gained widespread attention on social media. In the clip, Dayashankar can be seen wearing a saree, blouse and even a mangalsutra. In the video, one of the policemen can be seen holding his hand while taking him away.
Police officials said that when they reached his house, a person dressed as a woman confronted them at the door. This person claimed that Dayashankar was not at home. But the police grew suspicious because of the individual’s short hair. According to Police Station In-charge Anil Yadav, when a woman constable pulled off the scarf (pallu) from the person’s head, Dayashankar’s identity was revealed. He also had makeup on his face and lipstick on his lips.
Yadav added that head constable Shamsher Khan, constable Anita, Ramkesh, Asaram and other officers from Sadar Kotwali police station were part of the arrest team. They had reached the spot based on a location tracked by the police.
According to Assistant Police Commissioner Central, Manglesh Chundawat, Dayashankar was involved in an incident earlier this year. On February 10, a youth named Prince Chawla was reportedly attacked near Bagar Chowk in Peepli Gali at around 11:30 PM. He was beaten up by a group of men, and an FIR was lodged against Gajendra Singh alias Ran Singh, Dayashankar alias Bitiya, Hemendra, Hitesh and two to three other individuals.
Since then, Dayashankar had been on the run. As per reports, every time the police tried to arrest him in the past four months, he would dress as a woman and trick them by pretending to be someone else. He would gesture with his hand and say the accused was not at home.
The police have now taken Dayashankar into custody, and further action is being taken as per legal proceedings.
