Seven years after meeting by chance at the MissMalini office, chef Saransh Goila has finally proposed to Divya Rao. To make the moment special, Saransh planned a surprise proposal in Divya’s favourite place, the Cotswolds in the UK. After spending time exploring London, he took her to a beautiful bridge where a hidden photographer captured the moment the chef got down on one knee and Divya said yes. Recently, Saransh shared why he chose this spot in the UK and talked about how he managed to keep the proposal a secret from Divya for nearly two months, which was the hardest part for him.
Speaking with Times Now, Saransh revealed, “Divya studied in London for many years. So when I began thinking of where to propose, the UK was an obvious choice. But London is so busy and I wanted something more private, more magical. That’s when she showed me some reels of the Cotswolds, and I just knew. It looks like something from a storybook. I’d visited once before and remembered how time slows down there. When the sun sets, the whole town glows. I knew it was perfect.”
Saransh Goila shared that keeping the proposal a secret wasn’t easy. He had to keep hiding his phone and even lie when Divya Rao asked what he was doing, especially during the time he was shopping for the ring. One of the most important parts of the plan was the hidden photographer, Poppy Carter. She gave Saransh a location on Google Maps and told him exactly where to stand so that the photo will come out perfect. Even their driver knew about the plan. Everyone was part of the surprise, except Divya, who had no idea what was coming.
Speaking about the special moment, Divya explained, “He Was Nervous, which Was Very Cute. I had a feeling something was coming, maybe next year. He’d been asking friends about jewellery and weddings after attending a few ceremonies. But I did not expect it on this trip. It was just us and nature. Very emotional, very surreal. I keep trying to relive it in my head. He was nervous, which was so sweet.”
Revealing their love story, Saransh Goila shared, “It wasn’t love at first sight. We were friends first. I met Divya at MissMalini in 2017 when she was working there. I was doing a pop-up for Goila Butter Chicken and they requested a vegan meal for one person, Divya. I personally ensured that we made something special, a ghee free rajma chawal. I wanted to meet the person we were cooking this for and that’s how I met Divya. We ended up talking about London and travel. Despite our different food preferences, we connected.”
Following their dreamy proposal, the couple has already started discussing marriage plans. Divya shared, “We’re polar opposites. He’s Butter Chicken. I’m Bridgerton.” Saransh added, “There’s going to be a debate for sure. But given how dreamy the proposal turned out, I think we’re both leaning towards Bridgerton, maybe with a touch of Butter Chicken.”
Saransh and Divya have been together for over seven and a half years, and during this time, they’ve learned how to understand and support each other. The chef shared that no one really teaches you how to handle a relationship, but you grow with time. He also feels that he has become more responsible, open and caring, which his family credits to Divya’s positive nature. Although they work in different fields, they support each other without interfering too much.
