Sydney train commuters have been facing a smelly yet amusing issue that prompted a light-hearted response from the authorities. Transport for NSW, the agency overseeing public transport and roads, took to social media with a playful message urging taller passengers to be mindful of their personal space. They pointed out that for shorter commuters, a taller person’s armpit might be uncomfortably close to face level, making the ride less pleasant if hygiene isn’t up to par.
Taking to Instagram, NSW wrote, “If you’re a tall traveller, please be aware that shorter passengers might be at perfect… ‘pit height.’ Whether you’re minty fresh or not, it’s always good to check your surroundings to make sure you or your pits aren’t intruding on someone else’s space.”
In the floating text, NSW added, “When you’re vibing and someone decides it’s the perfect time to stretch their arms out.”
Many commuters liked this friendly reminder and shared their own funny stories about the problem. Some even gave hilarious suggestions.
Reacting to the post, a user suggested, “Make this a safety poster and place it inside the trains.”
Another shared, “A friendly reminder to be mindful of the personal space we share, especially when it’s close enough to smell.”
“As a hobbit, I approve this message,” a comment read.
An individual stated, “And this can intensify x10 for people with super sensitive noses like me”
Another mentioned, “Forget about height, if you are a passenger of any height, use deodorant, please.”
One more suggested, “Maybe trains should have coaches marked by height: 1–2: Giants and NBA players. 3–5: Regular humans. 6–8: Hobbits and pocket-sized legends.”
Sydney’s train line was recently in the news after it was shut down because someone damaged the signal wires near Guildford. This caused problems with train services. Transport for NSW shared that they found signal problems early in the morning, around 3 AM. When their team checked, they saw that some important wires had been cut on purpose.
The Transport Minister, John Graham, said that even one broken track can cause big delays in the whole train system. He added that Sydney’s train network is already complicated and damage like this only makes things worse. He also strongly criticised the person who did this.
