Graduation season is in full swing across universities in the USA and Canada, and videos of Indian students celebrating these milestones have been gaining significant attention online. While many were seen dancing joyfully as they received their certificates, one graduate from Saskatchewan Polytechnic in Canada stood out. As he walked across the stage, he chanted Lord Shiva’s name. Though not everyone in the crowd understood the chant, Indian attendees instantly connected with it and joined in.
In the video, the student walks on the stage after his name is called to collect his graduation degree. Before taking the certificate, he goes towards the mic and loudly says “Bol Shankar Bhagwan Ki Jai” and ends it with “Jai Shambhu.” His sudden chant surprises the people on stage and many in the audience. But soon, some of the audience members, especially fellow Indians, could be heard repeating. Others cheered for him, and the hall was filled with excitement.
Social media users were moved after hearing the chant during the graduation ceremony at the Canadian university. The comments section was filled with people writing the name of Lord Shiva and praising the student for spreading such positive energy during an important event.
Earlier, a student from the University of Washington Bothell also went viral for making his graduation moment truly unforgettable. Instead of simply walking across the stage to collect his certificate like everyone else, he broke into energetic Punjabi dance moves, surprising the entire audience. Dressed in a traditional black graduation gown paired with a purple scarf, Singh’s lively bhangra steps brought wide smiles to the faces of those watching. The crowd erupted in cheers, and even his professors looked visibly amazed by the performance.
Dance videos from graduation events often win hearts online, but not all public dance moments receive the same love. A recent example is a group of Indian tourists who performed garba to the Bollywood song Chogada on top of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. While the video quickly went viral and garnered millions of views, it also sparked backlash. Some social media users criticised the act, saying that dancing at iconic public locations could disturb others or potentially violate local regulations.
