The alleged murder of 25-year-old tennis player Radhika Yadav by her father has sparked widespread outrage. It has raised questions about what drove him to commit such a brutal act. The incident, which occurred on Thursday at their home in Gurugram, has triggered multiple possible reasons, from financial disputes, personal differences to objections over her music videos and Instagram reels.
According to the police, the accused, Deepak Yadav, allegedly shot Radhika five times, of which three bullets hit her. She was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to her injuries. While long-standing differences between the two were known, recent reports have revealed many angles of the motive behind his actions.
Taunts Over Living Off Daughter’s Money
As per a report in NDTV, Deepak was upset over taunts he received at his native place, Wazirabad. Villagers allegedly mocked him for living off his daughter’s earnings. He reportedly told police that he felt “ashamed” because of these remarks, which caused deep frustration and shame.
“When I used to go to Wazirabad village to get milk, people used to taunt me, saying that I live off my daughter’s earnings. This troubled me a lot. Some people even questioned my daughter’s character,” he told police, as quoted by NDTV.
Reportedly, Deepak also mentioned that he had asked Radhika to shut down her tennis academy in Gurugram’s Sector 57, which she had started after sustaining a shoulder injury that temporarily paused her career. However, she refused to do so.
Music Video Appearance
Another factor that might have angered the father was Radhika’s appearance in a music video. NDTV quoted police sources saying that Deepak had objected to her participation in the video and had even asked her to delete it from social media. The video in question is a song titled Karwaan by artist INAAM released under the LLF Records label. Radhika appeared in several scenes alongside the singer.
Instagram Reel Source Of Conflict?
A report by Jansatta stated that Deepak was allegedly upset over Radhika’s addiction to making Instagram reels. According to the report, his anger focused on one particular reel that he had asked her to delete multiple times. When she refused, he became frustrated.
It is not clear whether the Instagram reel mentioned in the Jansatta report is the same as the music video referred to by NDTV or if it was a different post.
Deepak was arrested following the incident and admitted to the act. The licensed revolver used in the crime was also seized from the house.
Well-Known Tennis Player
Radhika was a well-known name in the state-level tennis circuit, known especially for her performance in doubles. Apart from competing, she also dedicated her time to coaching young talent through her own tennis academy in Gurugram.
Over the years, she had played in several tournaments and faced opponents such as Viswanadh Harshini, Bougrat Maelys, Sun Yifan, Maruri Suhitha and Mashabayeva Dilnaz.
