US President Donald Trump expressed gratitude to the Supreme Court after it ruled on Friday to limit the power of judges to issue nationwide injunctions blocking his executive order on birthright citizenship, saying, “I am grateful to the Supreme Court for stepping in and solving this big and complex problem.”
“I am grateful to the Supreme Court for stepping in and solving this big and complex problem. They have made it very simple…Thanks to this decision, we can now properly file to proceed with numerous policies…Some of the cases we are talking about would be ending birthright citizenship, which now comes to the fore, that was meant for the babies of slaves. It was not meant for people trying to scam the system and come into the country on a vacation,” ANI reported, quoting Trump.
He praised the Supreme Court’s order, saying that some radical left-wing judges have attempted to weaken the powers of the President and block the policies for which the American people had voted in record numbers.
“It has been an amazing period of time, this last hour. There are people elated all over the country… In recent months, we have seen a handful of radical Left judges effectively try to overrule the rightful powers of the President to stop the American people from getting the policies that they voted for in record numbers. That was a grave threat to democracy…We had been hit with more nationwide injunctions than were issued in the entire 20th century together,” ANI reported, quoting Trump.
In January, a federal judge in Seattle temporarily blocked former President Donald Trump’s executive order seeking to terminate birthright citizenship in the United States, calling the policy “blatantly unconstitutional,” CNN reported.
Issuing a temporary restraining order, Judge John Coughenour, a Reagan appointee, responded to a legal challenge by Washington Attorney General Nick Brown and three other Democratic-led states. The restraining order halts the implementation of the policy for 14 days, allowing for further legal briefings.
The lawsuit argues that Trump’s executive order violates the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution, which guarantees citizenship to all children born on American soil “and subject to the jurisdiction thereof.” According to Lane Polozola, an attorney representing the state of Washington, “births cannot be paused” during the legal proceedings. He added, “Babies are being born today here, and in the plaintiff states and around the country, with a cloud cast over their citizenship.”
“Birthright Citizenship Order” refers to an executive order issued by US President Donald Trump on January 20, 2025, that seeks to end automatic US citizenship (birthright citizenship) for certain children born in the United States.
